Paramount Pictures and Microsoft have teamed up on some new content for Xbox Live. Xbox Movie Showcase features free, high-definition content from two of the most highly anticipated films of the summer: the action-thriller "Mission: Impossible III," starring Tom Cruise and directed by J.J. Abrams, and "Nacho Libre," a comedy starring Jack Black and directed by Jared Hess, the director of "Napoleon Dynamite." The Xbox Movie Showcase content includes HD movie trailers, exclusive theme packs, and graphics allowing Xbox gamers to customize their gaming experiences. In addition, stars of Paramount films, including Jack Black, will participate in Xbox's "Game with Fame," where gamers can sign up for a chance to play online against their favorite celebrities. According to Microsoft, Xbox Live momentum has accelerated since the Xbox 360 was launched last fall, with more than half of all Xbox 360 owners connecting to the online service, which boasts a worldwide community of more than two million members. Xbox Live has grown into a social community with some 600,000 text messages sent every day between members, according to Redmond. The Paramount trailer deal is not the first partnership for Xbox Live. In March, Microsoft signed a deal with Epic Records to provide free, high-definition music videos downloadable from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Through the partnership, Xbox Live subscribers can access content from select artists in the Epic Records' catalog as well as videos and other so-called exclusive content, including interviews and contests to play against the music stars online. The first featured artist was Natasha Bedingfield, a UK-based performer whose single "Unwritten" received heavy rotation on the radio. What might have seemed an odd choice to North Americans asking "Natasha who?" made perfect sense to gamers who had come to know Bedingfield from her work in the "From Russia With Love" game released last November.
Content from alternative rockers Franz Ferdinand and Audioslave as well
as Latina rocker Shakira, Hassidic rapper Matisyahu, veteran
heavy-metal rockers AC/DC, and pop idol Jennifer Lopez also have been
featured in the Marketplace. Join the forum and enter to win free monthly prize giveaways!
