MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf Brief Review

Following the success of MechAssault on the Xbox Live multiplayer platform, developers have spent time improving the model to create the next generation of robot warfare - MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf. Single player mode in Lone Wolf will be improved, since the strength of MachAssault was the multiplayer, and if you can go ahead and say, the single player mode wasn't nearly as good. Day 1 has commited a development team to create Lone Wolf specifically for the Xbox, so the development of the console game is very focussed. Some may be surprised with what the single player mode has to offer, and how well it will hold up to blockbusters such as Halo 2. The new game will provide players with expanded strategies required to complete missions, and the use of the lighter Mechs to complete missions. Players will be able to latch onto buildings using the Battle Armor's claw. If you scale a building to the top and enemy Mechs can't attack you directly. This is where the new and improved environments come into play. Every building in MechAssault 2 can be completely leveled. Depending on the building, you may be able to blast the outer shell off a building, which will reveal the internal structure; complete with pieces of the building falling in and around it, and interacting with your weapons if you continue firing upon it. Leveling a building is really the only way your attackers can deal your Battle Armor damage once you've planted yourself on top of a building. Another new addition to Lone Wolf is the Verticle Take-Off and Landing aircraft (VTOL). The VTOL can pick up Battle Armor or tanks and carry them rapidly across the battlefield. When your Battle Armor is connected to the VTOL, its offensive power is greatly increased, giving it the ability to take on just about anything else on the battlefield. You can even drop yourself behind an enemy Mech and attempt to jack their ride through a series of button inputs. The storyline will follow a more personable line, tracking the progressing of the pilots rather than the larger mechs, or the mech battles. Tentative ship date is December 28.
