Xbox November Launch and Price Details Can't Post

Apparently sources at Wal-Mart have revealed that the Xbox 360 console, scheduled to ship this November, will cost $299. Xbox 360 launch games are currently listed for preorder prices strating at $59.82USD.

The $299 price point for Xbox 360 will most likely give Microsoft a substantial price advantage over the PS3. Rumors have the PS3 releasing at a pricey $500+ USD to account for the hardware packed into the device. Even at this point some suggest Sony will still loose money off of their console.

Though the $299 tag is considered standard for a new-generation console, a near $60 price point for games is unlikely to force increased demand among gamers. Publishers justify the price hike with increased game development costs for next-generation consoles, with an average title costing as much as $15-20 million per project.

Several industry sources have referred to the reasons behind a price bump as "mere fabrication" of the actual cost of future game development. Whether or not consumers will pay $60 for a console game remains to be seen.
