So when do you all expect the release date to be? While nothing definitive has been stated from Microsoft, GameStop has recently placed a listing for the FPS on its website, showing a June 1, 2006 release.
Microsoft has been uncharacteristically reticent about its big-name franchise; the only bits of information have been from Bill Gates, who said to Time Magazine, "it's perfect ...the day Sony launches, and they walk right into Halo 3." Microsoft has since quashed that statement, saying that the release date has not been pegged down.
Although the game will be outside of the Xbox 360 launch timeframe,
Microsoft will likely shoot for a date close to or before the launch of
the PlayStation 3--the PS3 will launch in spring 2006 in Japan, and
probably fall 2006 for its stateside debut.

We're looking at a tentative release date of mid 2006, maybe the 1st of June. Check back the Halo forums or Xbox 360 forums for more details.

the third iteration of Halo,
which was credited for driving sales of the first Xbox after it
debuted in 2001, isn't expected until at least the second half
of 2006.

although microsoft hasn't done many things right pertaining to timing, look for the Xbox 360 to have the next iteration.
Basically, Halo 3 will be released the same day (maybe a week before) as the PS3 in attempts to steal some thunder. Will it work? So long as the game doesnt' suck and continues its success then yes, a bit.
What are your thoughts? 13000 views and hardly any posts, come on ppl!

You know, this is just opinion, but I think Bill Gates slipped with some information that he wasn't supposed to say. But think about it, MS and Sony have been competing for years now to be the best and the most sold. So far with their strategic move to release the 360 before the PS3 (which I don't believe will be any better than the 360), they have already secured the market. Families who promised to buy their youngin the next gen system have already spent their video game money for this year and possibly next, on top of that MS has kept everyone waiting in the wings for the next wave of systems to hit the market. Why? Clearly it's strategy. How can you tell me that MS made a mistake with it's product market? The #1 industry in the world, and they make such a foolish mistake? I don't think so.
I believe little Bill was a bit over zealous with his announcement of Halo 3, I don't think he was just making it up, it's coming out, and what better way to shove it in Sony's face and fully secure their spot in the market, but by releasing Halo 3 on the day PS3 comes out?
