Winning Eleven 8 Review Can't Post

Winning Eleven 8 is definately what it's title suggests, a winner. The series captures the pace and intensity of soccer in a way that few other simulations have. Konami has upped the ante, tweaking play, adding an on-field referee, and bringing the game to the Xbox.

Some new key pad movements along with subtle changes have improved this model of winning eleven. Analog button control over passes have been improved, and the result is the ability to dribble in a far more realistic fashion. Defensive AI has been improved to more intelligently shifts in momentum and formation placement.

Players also behave more according to their stats, especially in the case of the large group of licensed stars. For example, when trying to stop a quick striker with a hefty or spent defender, no amount of weight on the sprint button will change the outcome.

Visually, in addition to the onscreen referee, many small touches have been added, which add up to a huge graphics upgrade. Each player animation is now more individual, creating the impression that you're seeing a collection of players on field, rather than a team of clones. Each leans into a kick, or spins away from a tackle in a way that seems personal, rather than programmed. Vastly improved facial modeling creates distinct teammates and recognizable stars. And the replays and cutscenes were more watchable than anything we've seen in a stateside football game, with real personality emanating from the screen.

Although not complete like EA, Winning 8 adds the Dutch, Spanish, and Italian leagues. Bringing the license total to 57 national teams, 136 club teams, and 4,500 players.

Pros: great visuals, improved gameplay, improved ai, improved menus.

Cons: Horrible starter game. you're little kid won't figure this gameplay out in a hurry. No online support.
