While I'm on the topic of 2004 sports video games for Playstation 2 I thought I'd write a review for ESPN Hockey 2K4. Said to be the greatest console hockey game yet to hit the market, the hockey game delivers. I was pleased with the content and graphics, however, the only problem with hockey games is the amount of creativitiy with gamplay. You can't really deviate from the regular 3/4 camera angle view, and playability needs to remain quick and painless. The majority generally do not enjoy changing lines on the fly and such, so the possibilities are not really endless. Nontheless, ESPN 2004 offers a solid package in the areas where they can improve. AI, graphics, and some smaller unlockable games like pond hockey add a much needed twist to console hockey games. So long as these aspects always improve, then I'll continue playing. In terms of hockey games, I'd recommend this title. It's fun to play head to head against one person as well. Anymore and it becomes tedious, you can't see the entire ice-surface, nor will technology every change to incorporate these elements.... the 3/4 camera angle only shows so much, and other angles are tedious to play with.... Of course, that's just my opinion.
