I got the new PS2 for Christmas. I opened it and saw a CD with a little booklet that was about the PS2 online games. My friend said that the online gaming is now free because I already have the CD. Is this true? I am so confused.

Is the CD a game? typicalyl u need to own the game that's playable online, and then there is a fee to play online with Sony.

Well what game was it? Was it a demo CD? Typically u need the correct PS2 networking card at the back of your system, then you need internet connection and the correct game in order to access the network. Some games require broadband connections in order to play. PS2 Modorator @ DiscussVideoGames

No it came in the box of the new PS2. I have a broadband connection, and games that use the online feature(ex: ESPN MLB 2K5). But I haven't tried it, should I put it in the computer, or the playstation?

Ok if you want to play then you'll have to join the PlayStation 2 gaming network which is a collection of servers run by games publishers that are accessed over the Internet. Some of these games you do have to pay a monthly subscription to access. Plug from your computer the ethernet cable, and the game goes into the PS2. This means you'll be using the same network, and network protocols, that you would use when accessing the Internet via a computer. You can get online and play PS2 network witha PlayStation 2, a Memory Card, a Network Adaptor if you don't have the New Playstation Two, a Broadband Internet connection, an Ethernet cable and your choice of PS2 network game. Some Games carrying the Network Play Only descriptors are ONLY PLAYABLE ONLINE such as EverQuest Online Adventures, and Hardware Online: Arena. Checkout the List Of UK Network Games "Out Now" and those "Upcoming". There will be no additional charges for playing PlayStation 2 network games beyond your usual broadband connection subscription fees. Like I said, certain games such as EverQuest Online Adventures require a subscription fee to play. As games like EverQuest rely on persistent, online worlds, a fee has to be charged for the maintenance of the 'game universe'. However, premium games are the exception rather than the rule, and the vast majority of network games will be free. The reason for this is there are no centralized servers for online PS2 services, it's up to the individual game companies to set up servers, so you need to get your own internet connection to connect to them. It's not about the computer, it's about the internet connection. Hopefully your ethernet (internet) card permits you to plug in an outside source. You plug the OUT from the ethernet to the PS2. P.S. We've sent you a Gmail Invite. do with it as you wish! ;) PS2 Modorator @ DiscussVideoGames
