Guild Wars PC Review Can't Post

Hey here is the first posting for Guild Wars. Me and some buddies are going to be posting info and other things about guild wars as we find it. First off let me say that it is an awesome game! It is definately worth playing for RPG players old and new alike! The graphics arent the best that computers can dish out but it certainly beats games like Diablo 2. The graphics are more on par with the N64 but unlike that doomed system with its doomed games, this one utilizes every bit of those graphics.

In this online RPG, which by the way has no monthly fees, there are 6 job classes that you can choose from as well as whether or not to be male or female. The job classes are: Warrior, Monk, Elementalist, Mesmer, Necromancer, and Ranger. They are pretty much self-explanitory except for the Mesmer. Mesmers are illusionists and energy drainers not a great primary class but they make a good secondary with most spell casting classes.

Thats all im gonna write for now but will post more later

Re: [Slothman] Guild Wars PC Review [In reply to] Can't Post

In expanding on Slothmans descriptions. The game gives you a first person or 3rd person perspective, you can work with a team or with "henchmen" (hired goons!!) to complete quests and combat the forces of the Charr (the primary foe in the beginning parts of the game). The navigation is pretty easy to work with, the quests provide an arrow on the map as to where to go, you can "warp" to major towns that are a distance apart to save time, and you can have several quests on the go and complete them as you travel.

There is very little lag and no PKers, because when you leave any town and enter the world, you "and party if part of one" are in your own private world. This helps save a lot of lag from excess objects on the ground and people killing or causing network issues because of casting graphically complex spells.

Money is a challenge to acquire at first as well, its got a good basis in regards to acquiring items, but you can't just pick up thousands of gold in the first hour like diablo or other type games.

Re: [rlintner] Guild Wars PC Review [In reply to] Can't Post

Continuing on.. this time about the Characters and the way they work.
Necromancers I've found work fairly well when the right spells are combined together.
They can summon undeads, absorb life, cause damage, or hex (causes additional damage because of an action (spell casting, hitting, being hit, etc)). As is any spellcaster, necromancers are meant to stay in the rear and inflict great amounts of damage, so if your party doesn't have a forward offense like a warrior, hire a henchmen. Their clothing gets really interesting as well, I have a Female Necromancer with Bonelace armor, its a meshed material (who thought RPG Characters could be that attractive.. and then I think of the girls from FF7 and on... anyways)

Mesmers are extemely good in the realm of draining the life and mana of creatures. They can drain mana and gain life or cause damage, create small "storms" that cause damage to creatures within a small area. I find as a secondary class, its a very powerful ally to the necromancers life draining/absorbing abilities.

Guild Wars Hits 1 million [In reply to] Can't Post

MMOG Guild Wars, NCsoft's latest, just surpassed the one million user mark in just under six months on the market.

Guild Wars, unlike World of Warcraft, doesn't cost users a monthly fee, but instead charges for content updates.

US based publisher ArenaNet plans to celebrate the million mark by releasing a special edition of the game in Europe on October 21st.

Computer Gaming World [In reply to] Can't Post

This game is an editor's choice.
Here are a few quotes from CGW:

-"There's finally an online game that's worth your time."
-"The best part is that there's no monthly fee, so you can save your pocket money for dessert."
-"It predominantly feels like a co-op rpg played on a LAN with guild-based PVP tacked on at the end." (the game can be played with a dial up connection.)

rated 5/5.
