US Launch for Game Boy Micro Can't Post

Nintendo said it will launch its latest hand-held game player, the mobile-phone sized GameBoy Micro, in Japan on Sept. 13 and the United States on Sept. 19.

The GameBoy Micro, to be priced at 12,000 yen ($109 US) in Japan and $99.99 in the United States, has a five-centimetre screen and comes in four colours - black, silver, blue or purple, the company said Thursday.

The GameBoy Micro will be 10 centimetres wide, five centimetres long, 1.8 centimetres and weigh 79 grams - thinner, shorter and lighter than the identically priced Game Boy Advance SP. It will come with three removable faceplates that can be used to personalize the device and protect its screen.

Nintendo is targeting global sales of four million units by next March and plans to start selling the GameBoy Micro in Europe on Nov. 4, Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported. The new product will be able to play all GameBoy Advance games, which include more than 700 titles.

More details. Brighter, backlit screen and Interchangeable Faceplates Offer an Innovative Blend of Micro-sized Technology and Personalized Fashion. The sleek and stylish system will come in both silver and black versions, each with three removable faceplates so users can individually personalize their micro.

Game Boy micro measures just 4 inches wide, 2 inches long and 0.7 inches thin. It weighs 2.8 ounces, about the weight of 80 paper clips. Yet it boasts the same power as previous Game Boy Advance models, complete with the ability to play all Game Boy Advance games, a library of more than 700 titles. Game Boy micro features a 2-inch, crystal-clear screen, and Start/Select buttons that glow with the cool, neon-like blue found on many cell phones.

The black Game Boy micro will include one faceplate with a "Flame" design of fiery yellow double helixes on an orange background. It also will come with a green "Camouflage" faceplate and a chic silver faceplate.

The silver Game Boy micro will include an "Ammonite" faceplate with a dark blue swirling pattern. It also will come with a "Ladybug" faceplate that features a ladybug on a large pink gerbera daisy, and a slick black faceplate.

This may sound like a dumb question...

but is the Micro really the next Gameboy? Or is it just what the SP was to the Advance - just smaller and lighter?

I saw some screenshots of a few Micro games, but I wasn't impressed. They look very similar to the Advance games.

Someone please tell me that the Micro isn't the "Game Boy Advance SP 2"

It's not the next game boy, the way i know, there hasn't been TONS AND TONS of marketing saying 'hey all the fans of the most popular gaming system in the world, here is the new one!'. More like a cheap knock off to tide over fans till the real deal. Not exactly a 'next edition', but definately something like SP but with more changes. That's my take on it, haven't played games on it to comment thouhg.

My verdict:

Based upon all of the information provided, i believe that the game boy micro will be a complete and utter failure.

-It has graphics that are hardly better than that of the Game boy Advance's
-The screen is way too small
-Is rushed out because of the recent failure of the DS, however, that is a huge mistake. It will lack a good library of games, EXCLUDING the games it can play through its backwards compatible feature.

This is a major mistake on Nintendo's part.

Think back to the old controllers of the first Nintendo and that's basically the Micro. The device is backlit so that means it's the brightest of all the handheld devices on the market. Will the games roll out fast enough to keep interest? I don't think so, not sure why Nintendo is throwing out all these half products rather than a BAM in your face mobile device.
