100 university undergraduate students in Toronto took part in the study. It will be published next month in the Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology. Video gamers can now say gamesworkout the brain, according to a new study.

York University psychologist Ellen Bialystok undertook the study to see if people who speak more than one language react faster in a series of computer tests than people who speak only one language.

The tests revealed bilingual people do better in the tests, but Bialystok also discovered something about the gamers. Regular video gamers performed better than non-players. But bilingual people outperformed the gamers on more difficult tasks. Video games may slow down the brain's aging process, but more research is needed to determine whether they can make people smarter.
