Christian Video Game Publishers Seek Market Share

Every time I think about Christian video games I get this picture of Rod and Todd from the Simpsons yelling, 'convert the heathen!'. Christian video and computer games make up a tiny fraction of the $11 billion industry, however, there is substantial market yet to be tapped. Developers and publishers are hoping big name movies such as Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” and books such as the “Left Behind” series will increase the demand for faith based entertainment. To me, there is no point marketing faith based content to mainstream until Christian video games can produce a good product. And having said this, it's up to Chrisitians to stop accepting mediocare video games as the norm. The more demand for a better quality product will force developers to take the time and invest the money to produce an acceptable game. I will go out on a limb here, not much of a limb mind you, but I'd say all Christian video games on the market are years behind their mainstream competition. I'm not saying it's a bad thing to invest time producing these games, however, I am suggesting faith based games should be forced to create a game that's not miles below the rest of the video games. Requesting this is not much to ask; only at this time will you find faith based games garnering any type of market share in the video game industry. The target audience ranges from Christian gamers eager for new thrills to teenagers and 20-somethings who have never picked up a Bible. Join the forum and enter to win free monthly prize giveaways!
