Well I actually did pick up the system.... after they discontinued... but it could have been a great system if hackers hadn't ruined the online play and games weren't so easily pirated. I guess they shold have paid more attention to their market research.... PS2 and XBOX come out so soon after never gave it a chance... ah well.. .that was the end of SEGA...

Dreamcast could've been big had it been released earlier. Because it wasn't, people were willing to wait just a few months for the PS2 and XBOX. Sega's Dreamcast wasn't a complete failure. Its games continue to sell big on the other consoles (Virtua Fighter, Super Monkey Ball, Soul Calibur). Today's and next generation's consoles use much of the Dreamcast's features. XBOX has the revolutionary "trigger" shifts. Online game play is now stressed on all consoles (Fantasy Star Online was the first mmorpg on a console).
So while Sega's console days are over, Sega is far from dead.

The timing was absolutely horrible, it was the demise of SEGA console. BUt seriously, the games from the dreamcast for a time being were bar non the best, until ps2 came out.... that was the end....
Sega 2k series football were some of othe best games....

let's face it, from a purely console point of view it was inferior to the ps2 that was coming out. it was doomed from start.... look to see xbox go the same way if they don't get their crap together.
