THQ to Publish CONSTANTINE Video Game Can't Post

So what this supposed to be? The Matrix but with wings? The video game will closely follow the script of the movie, allowing gamers to play as John Constantine in third-person mode. The story will move between the planes of Earth and "Hell L.A." introducing terrifying enemies from the movie as well as new enemies created for the game. Players will encounter an arsenal of horrific artifacts including The Crucifier, the Holy Shotgun, and the Shroud of Moses.

THQ and SCi Entertainment Group have signed an exclusive agreement naming THQ the North American publisher for the "Constantine" video game, licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics, and based on the Warner Bros. Pictures film. The game is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in February 2005 in conjunction with the film's release.

Based on the DC Comics/Vertigo "Hellblazer" graphic novels, the supernatural thriller "Constantine" tells the story of John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), a man who has literally been to hell and back. When he teams up with skeptical policewoman Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost..... Remains to be seen how successfull the movie and the game will be, stay tuned for more. Post your thoughts here.

CONSTANTINE Video Game Preview [In reply to] Can't Post

Well it looks like a Matrix/van Helsing/doom 3 rolled into one, but I'll have to say constantine may only beat out the likes of Van Helsing in this list..... A matrix or doom 3 it is not, but entertaining? We'll have to wait and see. the third person shooter game is slated to arrive with the movie.

Constantine puts players in the hellblazer's shoes as he investigates a series of occultic events spanning both the normal, human world and hell itself. The environments are looking crisp. In lieu of the now-trendy, "scratchy film" look intended to produce visual unease in horror movies and games, Constantine actually veers the other way, into sharpness and clarity.

In keeping with the grubby, do-it-yourself spirit of the comics, spellcasting actually consists of players manually entering specific commands in order. You won't be pushing some single or all-purpose "magic" button. Although certain spells can be and must be focused, some of the ones we've seen so far have a nicely chaotic-looking, collateral-damage kind of "spray."

Weaponary include the holy shotgun, yes I typed that correctly. If that's the line of taste for you, consider the so-called holy crucifier, which shoots crucifixion nails. Laugh With such weaponry, the game and movie obviously "glam-up" John's action-star status quite a bit (in the comics, he'd be far more likely to just jab a lit cigarette into your eyeball), but what we've seen so far works surprisingly well with just a little suspension of dramatic disbelief. There's something satisfying about pumping good old earthly rounds into denizens of the netherworld. The aiming/control needs some tweaking, but we must confess to having hopes for this game license, "Keanuization" or no.

Post your review here once you play the game. Will it be another movie rip off? Or worthy of our time.
