Electronic Arts Canada launched the country's largest cash prize student art competition. The Electronic Arts Great Canadian Art Competition is a nation-wide challenge where Canadian graduating post-secondary students submit a five-minute 3-D digital animated short that will be judged by EAC staff. The top 25 finalists will be flown to EAC's studio headquarters in Burnaby, B.C. for a gala presentation where the grand prize winner will be awarded $20,000 cash. In addition, EAC will give a grant in the same amount to the winner's school. "This Electronic Arts competition is a fantastic opportunity for students. Not only does it represent a great deal of financial assistance for the winners at a crucial time in their education, but it will also help kick- start their future," said David MacWilliam, acting dean of the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver. "It is also a real plus for the schools involved in that EAC is including a matching grant to the winning student's institution. The talent in this country is phenomenal and it is an exciting time to be an art student, with so many careers opportunities available. This EAC competition will help create the excitement needed to build the next generation of successful Canadian animators!" With more than 1,300 talented employees, EAC provides uniquely stimulating and rewarding work environment geared towards creative expression and career advancement, as well as access to the best experts and newest technology in the industry. Electronic Arts Canada is accepting entries from permanent Canadian citizens and residents who currently are enrolled in their final year of a recognized art program at a Canadian college or university. Entrants must be graduating between December 2004 and May 2005. The top 25 finalists will be flown out to EAC's studio headquarters in Burnaby, B.C. for a gala presentation and final judging on April 30, 2005. There will be 10 cash prizes awarded to the best projects, including $20,000 for the grand prize winner and a matching $20,000 grant for the winner's school.
